PINK was built on a belief that a career in the arts should be for everyone — not just those who can afford to work for free, know the right people, or live in the right city.

In 2019, Katy Morrison founded PINK because that belief had nowhere to land in Greater Manchester. Not enough space. Not enough support. Not enough genuine ambition for what artists here could do if someone actually backed them. So she built it herself — alongside a seventeen-year career in hospitality that shaped everything about how PINK operates. The instinct to host well, to make people feel genuinely welcome, to care about the experience of every person who walks through the door — that's not borrowed from the arts sector. It's baked into how PINK was built.

What started as a one-woman curatorial project is today a four-floor arts centre in the heart of Stockport — run by a small, dedicated team — with a gallery, a dedicated events space, and a creative community of more than thirty studio artists. In 2023, PINK moved to Hilton House and restructured around something still rare in the arts: an earned income model. Artist studios and an open-source event space generate the revenue to cover our core staffing and overheads entirely. External funding is used to increase activity and raise ambition. Never to keep the lights on. That independence matters. It means we take the long view, back artists properly, and make decisions based on what the work needs — not what a funding cycle allows.
