A [KAMPTAL] Wine Tasting

This month we’ll be exploring the wines from the most Northern part of the Kamptal region 70km northwest of Vienna, Austria. 

The main soil condition in this area is Löss, a deep fertile layer of clay, sand and silt. It is very unique to this area of the world and it is mostly only found in the top layer of the soil. The secondary layers of soil are mostly very solid rocks like Amphibolite, Gneiss and different primary rock types local to this area. 

This combination of the soil types and the northern location creates a very specific expression with lots of minerality, freshness and depth in the wines.

We’ll try 5 wines, consisting of 2 whites, 1 orange, 1 rose and 1 red wine all made from the unique and characterful indigenous grape varieties of Austria.
