Echo Mapping
Elaine Grainger & Moa Gustafsson Söndergaard
2 August – 5 October 2025

PINK presented Echo Mapping, a collaborative residency and exhibition by artists Elaine Grainger and Moa Gustafsson Söndergaard, culminating in a presentation of new work. The partnership explored themes of place, movement, and the intersection of human experience with the built and natural environment.

Over several years, Grainger and Söndergaard had developed a shared practice, with previous presentations in Reykjavik and Aarhus. Echo Mapping marked their first collaboration in Stockport, where their individual methodologies converged through an ongoing dialogue facilitated by Katy Morrison, Curator/Director at PINK. The collaboration evolved from a micro-residency at PINK in October 2024, during which the artists undertook a site-specific exploration of Stockport through walking and mapping coordinates. Anchored in research and sensory engagement with the local environment, the project examined the relationship between lived experience and physical space.

Echo Mapping functioned as an exploration of both process and outcome. Through a shared interest in movement, architecture, and the ephemeral, Grainger and Söndergaard developed a critical dialogue between their practices, with the gallery space operating as an active site of interaction. The works presented—ranging from Grainger’s tactile sculptural responses to Söndergaard’s poetic text and textile pieces—reflected their ongoing conversations around time, memory, and the relationship between the human body and the land.
