Four-fold Reverie

Pippa Eason

2 August – 5 October 2025

PINK presented Four-fold Reverie, a major solo project by Manchester-based artist and PINK studio holder Pippa Eason.

Unfolding as a large-scale installation across four immersive environments, Four-fold Reverie offered a sculptural encounter with shifting states of perception, embodiment, and emotion. Combining ceramics, scent, sound, moving image, and spatial intervention, the work invited audiences into an architecture of feeling, where softness met friction and suspension met vitality.

Guided by the cyclical logic of the number four, Eason drew together personal, psychological, and cosmic rhythms to map a quadrant of feeling—an unstable landscape where self, sensation, and space collided.

Four-fold Reverie operated as a meditation on the politics of making, the poetics of material, and the necessity of self-reflection. Through clay, light, sound, and space, Eason proposed a framework for feeling: an architecture of emotion that asked not for answers but for presence; not for resolution but for the courage to dwell in uncertainty, to live with complexity, and to begin to feel at ease in one’s own skin.

This marked Eason’s most ambitious work to date and her first project to incorporate film, sound, and ceramics at this scale. The installation was developed in collaboration with designer Nick Booton, composer Jia Lee, ceramicists Florrie Andrews and Joe Hartley, and fabricator Johnny Billinge, with support from artist Maeve Thompson.

A free public programme of discursive events and performance accompanied the exhibition.

The exhibition also marked the launch of PINK’s in-house exhibition programme, developed alongside Director Katy Morrison’s practice-based PhD, which explored curatorial methodologies rooted in care, context, and co-creation.

Four-fold Reverie was supported by Arts Council England and The Haworth Trust.
